They founded an enduring organization for women: the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution -- dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education, patriotism and remembering the legacy of Revolutionary War patriots. Women's rights advocate/journalist, Mary Smith Lockwood is featured in the latest book written by helped form the Woman's National Press Association in 1882 and was its president. WNPA successfully fought for the rights of women journalists to have seats, set apart for their use, in both houses of Congress-despite the fact that women still couldn't vote.This is the story of their challenges, tragedies and triumphs as they strove to empower women.
Noël-Marie Fletcher is a journalist/photographer and author based in Washington, D.C. She is a member of the Geneva Press Club (Switzerland), Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the British Empire, Descendants of the Founders of New Jersey, the Santa Fe Trail Association, and the author of seven books including, "My Time in Another World: Experiences as a Foreign Correspondent in China" (2018).
