Self-Portrait

Langbeschreibung
Emanuel di Pasquale's Self-portrait offers a collection of small but powerful poems that present a world where the poet, the poem and thus the reader wrestle with the human connection with nature-our forming mother. These poems explore inner passions and how such passions help us understand the nature of nature, the nature of things, and ultimately the nature of ourselves.
Poet and translator Emanuel di Pasquale was born in Ragusa, Sicily, and came to America at the age of 15. In 1966, he earned an MA in English from NYU and has been teaching in college ever since. His first book of poems, Genesis, was published by BOA Editions in 1989. His more recent published works include the children's book Cartwheel to the Moon (Cricket Books), The Silver Lake Love Poems, and three from Bordighera Press: SICILIANA, WRITING ANEW: NEW AND SELECTED POEMS, and HARVEST. His long poem, Connections, won the Chelsea Poetry Award. His translation from the Italian of Silvio Ramat's Sharing a Trip won di Pasquale The Academy of American Poets' Raiziss/de Palchi Fellowship in 2002. He also won the Bordighera Poetry Prize for his English-to-Italian translation of Joe Salerno's Song of the Tulip Tree. In 2012 Xenos books published his translation of Dante's La Vita Nova, which he co-translated with Bruno Alemanni, and Gradiva Publications published his poetry book Out of Stars and Sand and other Sicilian Poems. Most recently he is the author of SELF- PORTRAIT (NYQ Books, 2014).
