The Asthmatic Glassblower

And Other Poems
Langbeschreibung
Billeh Nickerson is a poet for our times -- a witty, urbane chronicler of life through lavender-colored glasses. His poems, full of astonishing pleasures, speak to the wonders of the world: about "the push of knowing you're different" and "the pull of wanting to belong". He professes his unrequited love for Wayne Gretzky and his admiration for Velma, the unsung bespectacled heroine of Scooby Doo ("It must have been difficult to be ... the token smart chick with glasses"), and explores the tragicomic dynamics of the seminal 70s sitcom Three's Company ("Larry wouldn't talk about it / the time he and Janet and Jack / drank too much, found themselves / in the same bed together -- / his hands on Janet's hips / his lips pressed against Jack").
Billeh Nickerson is author of the poetry collection The Asthmatic Glassblower (Arsenal, 2000) and the essay collection Let Me Kiss It Better (Arsenal, 2002); he also co-edited Seminal: The Anthology of Canada's Gay Male Poets (Arsenal, 2007). A long-time resident of Vancouver, he recently relocated to Toronto.
