Architecture-Independent Programming for Wireless Sensor Networks

Langbeschreibung
New automated, application-independent methodology for designingand deploying sensor networksFollowing this book's clear explanations, examples, andillustrations, domain experts can design and deploy nontrivialnetworked sensing applications without much knowledge of thelow-level networking aspects of deployment. This new approach isbased on the Abstract Task Graph (ATaG), a data-driven programmingmodel and an innovative methodology forarchitecture-independentprogramming and automatic software synthesis for sensor networks.ATaG programs are concise, understandable, and network-independentdescriptions of global application functionality that can beautomatically compiled onto any target deployment. The book begins with an overview chapter that addresses theimportant issues of programming methodologies and compares variousprogramming models for sensor networks. Next, the authors set fortheverything you need for designing and deploying sensor networksusing ATaG, including:* Detailed description of the ATaG model's features* System-level support for architecture-independentprogramming* Examination of the graphical programming and software synthesisenvironment for ATaG* Case study illustrating the process of end-to-end applicationdevelopment and software synthesis using ATaGThroughout the book, the authors provide code excerpts andfigures to help clarify key concepts and explain each step. For programmers, the graphical formalism of the ATaG program, coupled with the fact it uses an existing language (Java), meansthat no special training is needed to start developing anddeploying applications in ATaG. Everything you need to know isclearly set forth in this book.
Amol B. Bakshi, PhD, is a Research Assistant Professor in theMing Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering at the Universityof Southern California (USC), Los Angeles. He also manages theIntegrated Asset Management project at the USC-Chevron Center ofExcellence for Research and Academic Training on Interactive SmartOilfield Technologies. Dr. Bakshi's PhD research was on programmingmodels for networked sensor systems and led to the creation of theATaG programming model and software synthesis toolkit. His currentinterests include semantic Web technologies for informationintegration, smart oilfield technologies, model integratedcomputing, and sensor networks.Viktor K. Prasanna, PhD, is Charles Lee Powell Chair inEngineering and Professor of Electrical Engineering and Professorof Computer Science at the University of Southern California (USC),Los Angeles. He is also an associate member of the Center forApplied Mathematical Sciences (CAMS) at USC, and a member of theUSC-Chevron Center of Excellence for Research and Academic Trainingon Interactive Smart Oilfield Technologies. He has served on theeditorial boards of the Journal of Parallel and DistributedComputing, Proceedings of the IEEE, IEEE Transactions on VLSISystems, and IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems. He was editor-in-chief of the IEEE Transactions on Computers andwas the founding chair of the IEEE Computer Society TechnicalCommittee on Parallel Processing.
